Strategic Commander

The Microsoft SideWinder Strategic Commander is an input device specifically designed for controlling real-time strategy games. Unfortunately, the accompanying driver software is no longer supported by Microsoft and will not run on 64 bit systems or Windows Vista and newer.

There existed an alternative client for quite some time, but unfortunately it had been discontinued by the author and was only released closed-source. This project is aimed at providing a replacement for that driver.

We provide a cross-platform library with a C-API interface for interacting with the device from user-level client applications. The library is licensed under terms of the MIT/X11 license and provided with full source code.

A DirectInput joystick driver for Windows is in development.
